The former Fonográf building was once a vibrant meeting place for renowned athletes, musicians and entrepreneurs. Carlos Santana played tennis here, while Judit Halász, Viktória Eszményi and Márta Sebestyén all recorded their music within these walls. The venue also hosted memorable celebrations - singer Sarolta Zalatnay even held her wedding reception here. It is no exaggeration to say that the members of Fonográf spent so much time on the premises that it felt like their second home.

Fonográf, formed in 1985 through the collaboration of Illés and the Tolcsvay brothers, established a leisure centre combined with a recording studio on the property. This unique combination quickly transformed the site into an influential hub of the city’s social and cultural life.

The Club began as an open social space but soon evolved into one of the city’s most exclusive venues. Over the years, its distinguished membership has included successful entrepreneurs, renowned musicians, and leading athletes. Gaining membership meant joining far more than a club: it meant entering a world where notable guests were a familiar presence and meaningful connections flourished effortlessly.

After many years of neglect, the building was revitalized and BOTANIQ Budai Club opened its doors on the site of the former Fonográf Club.
